The ACP’s Managing Pro Program includes progressive learning experiences that make it possible for our members to earn a meaningful income from performing a variety of administrative and operational functions around their clubs.
Note: a post-secondary education in Sport/Recreation Management or Business Administration will further enhance a candidate’s credibility with potential employers.
Associate Managing Pro

Timeline: June to October

The ACP and LTCD

This course begins with an overview of the ACP, including its purpose, structure, and accreditation requirements. Candidates will then learn about Curling Canada’s Long-Term Curler Development (LTCD) model and its stage-by-stage guidelines. Instructor: Rob Krepps

 

Curling Foundations

This course is designed to ensure that all ACP Managing Pros have the necessary knowledge of their sport to be credible in their roles. Candidates will learn about curling tactics, technique, equipment, rules, norms, and history. Instructors: Rob Krepps and Bobby Ray

 

The Curling System

This course begins with a macro perspective on the Curling System, including the roles of various sport and curling governing bodies. Candidates will then learn about the embedded Curling Industry and how ACP Pros might best contribute to it. Instructor: Bobby Ray

 

Business of Curling

This course begins by introducing the essential Business of Curling (BOC) fundamentals that all ACP Pros need to understand. Candidates will then learn about a variety of BOC principles and objectives that they can apply to their clubs. Instructor: Bobby Ray

 

Club Programming 1

This course begins by introducing the essential programming principles that all ACP Pros need to understand. It then presents programming best practices aimed at curlers on the Recreational Pathway and at the Foundational Stages. Instructors: Bobby Ray and Rob Krepps

 

Curling Coordination 1

This course introduces a framework designed to plan, organize, lead, and evaluate successful leagues, events, and training opportunities. Candidates will then learn how to apply this framework to both Foundational Stages and Recreational Pathway programming. Instructor: Rob Krepps

  • Workshop 1: August 2026
  • Workshop 2: September 2026

Note: candidates will be evaluated on their ability to plan a Recreational Pathway event.

Learning Portfolio

Candidates are required to document the key takeaways from their online courses and in-person training in a shared Learning Portfolio. The quality of their Learning Portfolio entries are then evaluated by their Mentor Pro and the National Office.

 

Final Exam

The evaluation process concludes with a Final Assignment that is designed to ensure that candidates can apply the information in their Learning Portfolios to the work that they will need to do as an Associate Managing Pro.

Head Managing Pro

Timeline: November to May

Club Finance

This course covers the essential financial management skills that all Managing Pros need to know. Candidates will learn about budgeting, revenue generation, expense control, financial reporting, and long-term financial planning. Instructor: Bobby Ray

 

Club Operations

This course provides a thorough overview of various club operations that all Managing Pros need to understand. Candidates will learn how to oversee the ice and rocks, food and beverage, and pro-shop operations within their clubs. Instructor: Bobby Ray

 

Club Marketing

This course focuses on a variety of proven marketing principles that contribute to a thriving curling club. Registrants will learn how to attract new curlers, upgrade their involvement, and retain established club members. Instructor: Bobby Ray

 

Club Programming 2

This course builds on the programming principles that were introduced in Club Programming 1. Candidates will then learn about the best practices to support curlers on the Competitive and Podium Pathways of our LTCD model. Instructor: Rob Krepps

 

Curling Coordination 2

This course focuses on the successful operation of leagues, events, and training opportunities. Candidates will learn how to plan, organize, lead, and evaluate these offerings in an efficient and effective manner. Instructors: Bobby Ray and Rob Krepps

  • Session 1: March, 2027
  • Session 2: April, 2027
  • Session 3: May, 2027

Note: candidates will be evaluated on the Strategic Plan that they develop for their clubs.

Portfolio Project 2

This project requires candidates to document their key takeaways and expected applications from all Managing Pro training in an online Learning Portfolio. Each candidate’s Learning Portfolio is then evaluated by a panel of three ACP Master Pros.
